The NSW Opportunity Class Placement test is used to identify high-potential and gifted children in public schools across NSW. These students are then offered a place in one of the schools that offers Opportunity Classes in Years 5 and 6.

The NSW Selective High School Placement Test is used to identify high-potential and gifted students. These students are then offered a position at a Selective or Agricultural high school that provides an educationally enriched environment.
The test consists of four sections, all with multiple-choice questions (except Writing):
Scholarship tests are for students who want to apply for a scholarship to a chosen Independent school. They are conducted at different times of the year depending on the school but are usually held at the beginning of the year in February and March.
